April 2007
Greetings!
As I write my last President’s letter, I want to say thank you. It has been a great year for the Chapter. I recently submitted four events/processes the Chapter completed for national awards-“Yergers”. We had a very dedicated committee that reviewed these candidates for Yerger. We are very confident we will have some selections. This is a real testimony to the great things our Chapter is working on.
I am very excited about the leadership team for next year. Kathy Hughes will be a great President and she is organizing some strong leadership committees. She is still looking for people-no experience necessary! If you are interested, please see her.
The HFMA year wraps up in May with the Spring Conference in Branson. It should be a great conference. This is a multi-Chapter event which will afford additional networking opportunities from our typical Chapter meetings.
Thanks again for all your help this year. See you at the next HFMA event!
Sincerely,
Jim Hill

2007-2009 Strategic Plan
The chapter Board of Directors and other interested parties met on February 27 to develop the strategic plan for the next two years as well as goals for the coming year. A total of 16 members were in attendance for the afternoon session.
Development of a strategic plan has been a requirement from National HFMA for a number of years. This year it was optional, but a new requirement of goal setting based on a balanced scorecard established by National was put into effect. The 2007-2008 year is considered to be a transition year to the new National HFMA requirements, so our chapter elected to do both--goal setting and a strategic plan.
Highlights of the strategic plan include: --Providing quality educational programs that meet member needs. Ten different initiatives have been established in order to meet the goal of increasing registrant hours at programs by 3 percent. --Ensuring professional development opportunities, with 5 different action items for the year. The goal is for chapter members to achieve a minimum of five certifications annually and also to have more of our provider members serve on the Board and as committee chairs. --Provide opportunities for networking and improving communications within the Chapter. Six different initiatives have been established that will help us achieve the goal of 49% of our members being "very or extremely satisfied" with HFMA on the next national survey. --Promote membership retention and growth. We want to achieve a membership retention rate of 87% and a senior financial executive goal of 65% of the market. The group developed 6 different ways to achieve this goal. --Provide effective and efficient Chapter management. Nine initiatives have been listed on the plan to help us achieve the goal of keeping the chapter moving forward in the areas of finances, timely reporting to National, and Yerger Award applications.
Should any member have questions about next year's plan, feel free to contact Kathy Hughes at 314-525-4445 or by email at hughkl@samcstl.org. The list of Board meeting dates for next year will be available soon and all members are invited to attend any Board meeting--another new initiative for next year!!!
